The High Street Band - NYC Based Cover Band
The High Street Band are one of the most popular cover bands in New York. They are well known for the wide range of songs that they can play. The band is made up of four highly skilled professional musicians who have been playing together for more than a decade, the experience shows in their performance.
The High Street Band would get their start when a couple of struggling musicians would get together and decide to start their own band. The idea started with guitarist Gene Evers, he had been playing with a number of local bands that had kept breaking up. Over the years he had gotten to know bassist Matthias Klein who himself had been playing in a string of bands. The two of them often saw each other at the clubs around New York. Eventually they both found themselves without a band and they decided to form their own.
The original intention of the High Street Band was to play original songs. Over the years Evers had written a number of songs so they had plenty of material. Singer Lorenzo Dessel was hired along with drummer Ken Fishman and they set out to make their name around New York. It turned out to be slow going. Finding gigs proved to be a challenge and the band started to become a part time endeavor for most of the members as they needed to take on other jobs to pay the bills. It looked like the High Street Band was headed for the same fate as so many other bands the members had been involved with over the years.
Things would change however when they saw an ad looking for a cover band to play at a party. They decided that they could do this so the put together a set list and they auditioned for the job. They were hired and the performance went very well. This would lead to a number of other jobs as a cover band. Eventually the decision was made that the High Street Band would stop playing original songs and become a full time cover band; it proved to be a wise decision.
Once the decision was made to become a cover band the jobs started coming very quickly. Soon the members of the band were able to quit their day jobs and focus on being musicians. Over the years the High Street Band has developed a reputation as one of the top cover bands in New York. A big part of the reason for this is the rather eclectic set list that they have. The High Street Band can play anything from heavy metal to jazz. This versatility allows them to play a wide range of events.
