Drums: Ken Fishman
Ken Fishman is the drummer for the popular New York cover band the High Street Band. Unlike most professional musicians Fishman never really set out to make a career in music. However when the opportunity presented itself he grabbed it and he hasn't looked back. Being the drummer in a cover band may not be the career goal of most musicians Ken Fishman is having a great time making a living by playing the drums.
Ken Fishman had never really planned on a career as a musician, it just kind of happened. As a child he had an interest in music which he got started with by playing in the school band. He took an interest in the drums which he played in the school band. He also managed to convince his parents to get him a drum set. Ken would spend many hours after school beating on his drums. While he enjoyed music he never really thought about a career as a musician. He headed off to college to learn to become an accountant.
It was while he was attending college that Fishman became aware that he might actually be able to make a living as a musician. He joined a band that played at a number of events around town. Although the pay was a pittance he was making money as a musician something that he had never really thought possible up until that time. Nevertheless he would continue to study accounting and following graduation he would take a job in New York as an accountant. However at the same time he continued to have an interest in playing the drums.
Once he was out of school Fishman found that there were few opportunities for him to play the drums. Therefore when a friend of his mentioned that he was interested in starting a cover band Ken joined right in. They were hardly the most serious band in the world playing mainly on weekends around their other jobs but it was enough to whet Fishman's appetite for a career as a musician. Eventually he would decide that he was going to quit his accounting job in order to become a professional musician. It was around this time that he heard about a band called the High Street Band that was looking for a drummer. He decided to audition.
Following his audition with the High Street Band Ken Fishman was hired to be their drummer and he quit his job as an accountant. After the first few months this started to seem like a bad decision, jobs were few and far between. The struggles actually went on for about two years before the decision was made to start taking jobs as a cover band. This changed everything as soon the High Street Band were in high demand all around New York City.
