Lead Singer: Lorenzo Dessel
Lorenzo Dessel is the lead singer of the High Street Band one of the most popular cover bands in New York City. Over the course of his musical career Dessel has played with many bands however few of them were particularly successful. Nevertheless the experience that he gained performing with so many different musicians has really helped to make him the singer that he is today.
Lorenzo Dessel was born and raised in Oregon where he took an interest in music from a young age. Like most singers he got his start in elementary school with the school choir. He continued to sing with the school choir right through high school while at the same time forming a rock band with a group of his friends. The band practiced in the garage at the guitarist's house, although they never actually performed for an audience. When Lorenzo graduated from high school he decided that he was going to pursue a career as a professional musician.
The first paying job that Dessel got as a musician was when he started singing with a cover band in Portland. They mostly played on weekends and the guys all had regular day jobs. After a couple of years of this Lorenzo made the decision that if he was going to be a professional musician he was going to have to leave Portland so he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career. While he was there he auditioned for lots of local bands eventually he would work with several bands playing local clubs but the bands would inevitably break up a few months later when it became obvious that they were never going to make it to the next level. After about five years of this Lorenzo decided that it was time for a change and he decided to try his luck in New York.
After arriving New York Lorenzo ended up following the same pattern that he had experienced in California. He would join a band they would play a few local clubs and then a few months later they would break up and go their separate ways. This would continue for a few years until he joined the High Street Band.
At the time Lorenzo joined the High Street Band they were still trying to make a go of performing original songs. They were only having modest success however getting a few gigs here and there in local clubs. It looked like they were headed the same route as all of the other bands that Dessel had been involved with when they made the momentous decision to become a cover band. This gave them a chance to actually earn a living as musicians. Ten years later the band is still going strong as one of the most popular cover bands in New York.
